Greens Report February 2018

March 5, 2018

As I write this report the snow is melting but I feel like the ice queen because as Paul Clifton reminded me it has snowed since I took over as Chair of Greens.
I can only hope that some of you have found a window of decent weather to play golf.

If you have been out you will see the amount of work carried out by Rob and his team. They

The changes on the course have resulted in many positive comments and although we have not seen so much change for a while please be patient because when the course

What's been happening on the third green?

November 28, 2017

The first problem is that there was a constant wet patch because the drainage wasn't working properly

A secondary problem is that a number of our greens are "floating" on a bed of residual thatch.

The solution to both of these problems is drainage and aeration. Dryer root zones are warmer, encouraging root growth, and oxygen allows the thatch layer to break down.

Air2g2 Machine

Our air injector machine is in frequent use to encourage this process. If you want to see air injection in action, "Air2g2" on YouTube will oblige.

New drainage pipes have been put in place and connected to the system under the green.

The work in this area is nearing completion and the holes will be filled in and turfed over in the next few days, weather permitting.

Flooding - 4th November 2017

November 4, 2017

The course was closed first thing on 4th November because of heavy overnight rain.

Following an inspection, it reopened at midday.

Adidas Adizero Tour shoe ban.

March 29, 2017

Regrettably it has become necessary to ban Adidas Adizero golf shoes from the course.

The design of the sole means that they leave large indentations in softer greens, which are only to be expected at this time of year.

Many other clubs have done the same.
